Mr. Dean Whitehurst from Bethel Passes Away

Mr. Harold Dean Whitehurst, 79, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010. The funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 pm at Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Doug Tyson. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. Mr. Whitehurst was a native and lifelong resident of the Whitehurst Station community. He was the son of W.K. and Caddie Warren Whitehurst. He operated Whitehurst Grocery with his brother until his retirement in 2006. He was a member of Hickory Grove Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, Marvin, Cliff, Cecil and Joe Whitehurst, and a sister, Peggy Everett. He is survived by his: Lifetime sweetheart of 59 years, Arlene Manning, of Bethel; sister, Ruth W. Manning, of Whitehurst Station; brothers, Ralph Whitehurst and wife, Louise, of Whitehurst Station, and John Whitehurst and wife, Barbara, of Rocky Mount; sisters in-law, Shirley Whitehurst, of Whitehurst Station, Pearl Whitehurst, of Rocky Mount, and Grace Whitehurst, of Robersonville; brother in-law, Clayton Everett, of Goldsboro; and 20 nieces and nephews and 24 great nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Ruth Manning at Whitehurst Station.
